Over the weekend I read a short article in “Spirit Magazine” (yes…Southwest Airline’s magazine found in the seat pocket on the plane) about the benefits of climbing trees and other forms of “play” that we cease to do as we get older.
The list of benefits included developing the prefrontal cortex to a greater extent and being able to make complex decisions more quickly. It’s also a form of stress relief
There were some other things on the list, but it wasn’t too hard to sell me on the idea that I needed to “climb more trees” in my lifetime – I love climbing!
I was like “Hell yeah, I’ma climb the SHIT outta some trees!”
And so, from now on, my GOAL is to climb a tree in EVERY CITY that I visit when traveling for CrossFit Headquarters. It started this past weekend in St. Charles, Missouri:

Right outside the airport…on the side of the road, actually. Cars were honking, so I didn’t get to make it up very high before the picture was snapped.
Don’t forget about everything going down this week:
- 10/31 is out Halloween Costume WOD! Wear a costume to CFME during your workout where a prize will be given out for best outfit.
- 10/31-11/2 is “Superhero Orientation”! Free classes for friends and family…yes, they can come dressed up on Wednesday too.
- 11/3 is the SMA Event Fundraiser over at CFLV! Last year we put on a hugely successful event and we hope to have a good showing at CFLV for support.
