Do You Have Fun?

When was the last time you played?

Seriously, when was the last time you played a game or did something purely because it was fun?

The last line of World Class Fitness in 100 Words states that we should “Regularly learn and play new sports.”  I’d like to add the verbiage of “while having fun” somewhere in there.

Having fun is an integral part to our development as an athlete and human.  It relieves stress and allows us to put other complexities in our life into perspective.  As adults, we tend to lose focus on what is actual stress-free fun and we substitute activities which stress us further (drinking alcohol, smoking, going to clubs late at night, etc.).

Fun and the Importance of Play

Today or tomorrow, go play a game for an hour – a board game, a basketball game, a video game (preferably with another person). Try and live in the moment and forget about everything else.  Play like a kid again.

Today’s team workout is fun, but not fun.  Y’all know what I mean…

*athletes can not progress forward in the workout until their teammate in front of them completes the station.  time ends when last athlete runs the 400m.
